“EMCC” – the second edition of the European Media Cycling Contest with a special guest: French cycling legend Bernard Hinault.

This year’s EMCC, organised with the support of Apt Servizi Emilia-Romagna Tourist Board and Visit Romagna, was the official media preview of the 2024 Tour de France Grand Depart in Emilia-Romagna

The European Media Cycling Contest (EMCC) was one of the most important happenings in 2023  for cycling enthusiasts in Emilia-Romagna. This year’s edition saw as head quarter the seaside town Cesenatico, start of the 2024 stage 2 of the Grand Depart Tour de France, and included a visit at the Italian Bike Festival in the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Over 30 selected international media – including journalists, bloggers, influencers and YouTubers – specialised in cycling coming from 7 different European countries took part at the second edition of EMCC from the 14th to the 17th September 2023 (www.emcc.it). The event has been organised with the support of Apt Servizi Emilia-Romagna Tourist Board and Visit Romagna, within the framework of the communications, marketing and promotional projects focused on bike tourism and cycling on the European markets.

The second edition of the European Media Cycling Contest (EMCC) saw more than thirty international media – including journalists, bloggers, influencers and YouTubers – specialised in cycling taking part in a three-day cycling extravaganza. Participants were coming from 7 different European countries and spent their time exploring the best what the area has to offer in terms of cycling: San Leo and San Marino, part of stage 1 of next year’s Tour de France; Cesenatico, start of the 2nd stage of the 2024 Grand Depart Tour de France in honour of local legend Marco Pantani; and the Italian Bike Festival. All of this together with a special guest: the French cycling legend Bernard Hinault, that was welcomed by all guests at the Lungomare Bike Hotel in Cesenatico, head quarter of this year’s event, on the evening of Thursday 14th September.

The second day was spent at the Italian Bike Festival at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli and in the evening all of the EMCC guests were invited to join an exclusive “apericena” (aperitivo + dinner) at the Club del Sole Bike Resort in Riccione.

On day 3, Saturday 16th, all EMCC participants enjoyed a guided bike tour, organised with the support of the Lungomare Bike Hotel, together with Bernard Hinault and Davide Cassani through the next Tour de France Grand Depart stage 1 route that included the climbs of San Leo, San Marino and the descent towards the finish line in Rimini. A tour of about 90 km that saw the group of media enthusiasts pass through some of the most beautiful villages of the Marecchia Valley, with a lunch break stop in the Republic of San Marino, tasting local wines and traditional food of the region.

The grand finale was then on Sunday 17th, when all 30 European media took part at the time trial race in Cesenatico in an event that saw participants competing for the second edition of the European contest. Winners: in the male category Tomas Cepka from Slovakia, and in the female category Giulia De Maio from Italy.

EMCC has been organised thanks to the joint cooperation between Apt Servizi Emilia-Romagna Tourist Board and Visit Romagna, within the framework of the communications, marketing and promotional projects focused on bike tourism and cycling on the European markets.
